Britains biggest piece of art sculpted from Cleveland Steel
CST's customer S H Structures needed 813mm diameter tubes to turn world famous artist Anish Kapoor and engineer Cecil Balmond's vision into reality.
High Yield, fine grained steel was specified by the engineer and independent testing proved that the tubes in our stock were more than adequate for the complicated structure.
Surplus tubes intended for use in a submarine pipeline for transporting North Sea oil made the short journey to Teesside, via SH Structures and specialist bending company Angle Ring.
The huge piece of art, 50metres high and over 100metres long contains two rings 32m and 28m in diameter fabricated from steel tubes selected from our stock.
Described by the arts council as "World Class", and the Institution of Civil Engineers as "sculpture that encompasses first class engineering" we are delighted to have been chosen to supply material for this iconic landmark.
